Hypnotherapy for Pain Management
Make choices about how you experience pain
Of course we all know that pain is an alarm signal to the brain that something is wrong with the body. And it’s important that with any new or unexplained pain, you get yourself properly checked and treated by a qualified medical professional. Hypnotherapy is not a substitute for medical care, and anyone interested in Hypnotherapy for Pain Management needs to have seen a doctor first.
Doctors are experts in the physical; they deal primarily with the body, rather than the mind. So once the physical options are exhausted, there is very little a doctor can do except prescribe pain medication, which may have unwanted side effects. A different approach is needed.
Sometimes it’s the mind that needs to be targeted, not the body.
In cases like this, Hypnotherapy offers a variety of techniques that you can learn with the aim of giving you more control over how you feel and experience your own pain. Of course, pain does serve a useful function in the body by alerting us to problems and making sure we don’t worsen injuries. However sometimes with chronic pain the pain persists even when its job is done. Old pain is sometimes still felt in the mind, even though it no longer serves a purpose - a classic example of this is phantom limb pain.
Why not take a different approach to manage your pain?
In addition, there are many people who live with chronic conditions such as arthritis or fibromyalgia. In many cases long-term pain is managed with painkillers for years and years. Unfortunately these painkillers can have unwanted side-effects, some of which can be quite serious.
How can Hypnotherapy help?
Hypnotherapy can help in various ways. In sessions, we can negotiate directly with your subconscious mind to reduce your pain, and if there is an emotional element to it we can work on that too. Pain feels far worse when teamed with a bad emotional state. Everyone has had the experience of ‘forgetting’ pain momentarily, because you were absorbed in something else.
Also while you are in hypnosis I can show you various different techniques to control your pain. I will teach you self-hypnosis, with the aim being for you to use all the techniques yourself to control your own pain when it’s necessary.
