Weight is a very personal issue. If you are happy with your weight, then whatever it is, there’s no problem. But, if you are unhappy about your weight and have the desire to change, then maybe Hypnotherapy can help.

I offer personalised sessions, targeting the specific issues that you have. Weight management really isn’t a one-size-fits all approach, so your session will be aimed at what YOU need.

Diets don’t work

We all know that diets don’t work! How many times have you lost weight on a diet, only to put it all back on again as soon as you stopped? And do you really want to go to a diet club every week for the rest of your life?

Surely it makes sense to change how you feel about food instead?


The good news is that what we eat is actually entirely under our own control. 

Why am I overweight?

There are many different reasons why people carry excess weight, it’s likely that the exact reason is as unique as you are!

Junk food

A lot of the food that many of us find appealing has very little nutritional value, and really does nothing to nourish our bodies. The instinct to seek out sweet, fatty, high-calorie food is a throwback to caveman times, and would have ensured our survival in a world of famine and scarcity. Unfortunately this basic human drive is no longer useful to us in today’s society, where we have access to an overabundance of food 24/7.

One of the things about food, though, is that the foods we like and dislike can and do change over time. We tend to enjoy the foods we eat regularly, and get used to. Hypnotherapy can help you to set new, healthier habits and enjoy better food choices most of the time, therefore helping you to lose weight.

Of course, it’s important not to be too strict. I usually find that an 80/20 approach, where you eat healthily 80% of the time, and enjoy a bit of what you fancy 20% of the time, works well.

Poor Food Choices

In today’s busy modern world, it’s only too easy to pick up a takeaway or a ready-made pizza from the supermarket on the way home from work. It requires a little more effort to buy fresh, healthy ingredients and cook from scratch, even though we know that we will look and feel better when we do.

Hypnotherapy can help you to create new, healthy habits that will help you to lose weight - getting into a routine of preparing your food in advance, and breaking the cycle of convenience food.

Portion Sizes

Sometimes we are simply eating too much for our bodies! This is sometimes the case with women who have just moved in with a partner, and unconsciously start to match the eating patterns of a larger person. Or sometimes we just don’t realise that we are supersizing our portions.

On a practical level, using smaller plates can help with portion size, especially if you are one of those people who has been conditioned to always clear their plate, even if your hunger was satisfied after just half the food in front of you. Hypnotherapy can help you to change this mindset, by changing these unhelpful patterns and allowing you to create new, more helpful mental habits of eating until you are full, and then stopping.


Most useful, though, is changing our mental approach. Remembering to eat mindfully, putting our knives and forks down between bites and really noticing when our stomachs are full is key here. Hypnotherapy can help greatly in reinforcing and embedding this new approach and so helping you to lose weight.

Comfort Eating or Emotional Issues around food.

This is a very common reason why people eat more food than they physically need. When we eat something we like, we are rewarded by the release of the feel-good hormone, dopamine. If we are struggling to deal with negative or painful emotions, getting a pleasure hit from food is one way to make ourselves feel better. Of course, the relief is only temporary, and the longer term consequences include excess weight gain and potentially worse health overall. Unfortunately this can lead to a vicious cycle where we feel bad - we eat - we gain weight - we feel bad about the weight and we eat more.

Hypnotherapy can be used to help us lose weight by boosting our confidence and self-esteem and resetting our eating patterns so that we learn to eat mindfully and recognise when we are eating emotionally. Hypnotherapy can also help to unravel past events in our lives that have shaped our attitudes and behaviours towards food - and help us finally lose the weight and achieve a better relationship with food.

Problems with specific foods

Sometimes the problem can be with a specific food, often foods that aren’t good for us in excess, such as crisps or chocolate. Hypnotherapy can help by creating an aversion to specific foods, so that you simply don’t find them appealing any more, and can create new and healthier eating habits which will help you to lose the weight.
